Fire at Pharma warehouse at Honda industrial estate

Panaji: A major fire broke out at a warehouse of a pharmaceutical company, Puniska Injectables, at the Honda industrial estate, Valpoi, on the intervening night of Wednesday and Thursday. No casualties were reported.

An official of the fire and emergency services said they received a call at 2am informing about the fire. Besides a fire tender from the Valpoi fire station, another one from Bicholim fire station was called to douse the fire that engulfed 600sqm of the warehouse.

The official said that it took them more than five hours and eight water tanks to extinguish the fire. The warehouse was filled with saline bottles and other material, a fire official said.

The fire fighting team included station fire officer Santosh Gawas, sub-officer Shrikant Gaonkar, leading fire fighter Arvind Desai and fire fighters Tulshidas Dharmekar, Satish Naik, Sandeep Gaonkar and Rupesh Gaonkar.

Officials of the fire and emergency services said they are yet to estimate the loss to the company.
