Two drug and pharma companies, Shree Jaya Laboratories and Vineet Laboratories Ltd, in Pochampally mandal of Yadadri Bhuvanagiri district, were acted upon by the TS Pollution Control Board (TSPCB) for discharging untreated chemical waste into adjoining agricultural fields, causing water and soil pollution.

In an affidavit to the National Green Tribunal (NGT), the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) informed that the TSPCB had taken action after an inspection of sites and testing of water samples showed high levels of chemicals, indicating that both the companies were not following the norms over treatment of effluents.

The TSPCB directed the companies to comply with all conditions for consent for operation (CFO) and hazardous waste authorization (HWA), treat effluents regularly and not discharge any wastewater outside the industry premises. It also prohibited the industry from storing high TDS effluents in rainwater storage tanks.

The companies were asked to submit a bank guarantee of Rs 2 lakh each in favour of the TSPCB.
